The Brookhaven Effect

Welcome everyone to another edition of the Doctor’s Note where we talk about what’s on our minds when it comes to your health.

As I have emphasized many times on my podcast, what you eat profoundly impacts your health. This week I invited Dr. Nathan Wells and Jake Hubbard, co-founders of Brookhaven Farms, back on the podcast to share what they call the “Brookhaven Effect” and its potential to transform your health.

In our discussion, we explore how consuming quality, locally-sourced foods can lead to a healthier, longer life. Whether you’re a fan of the carnivore diet or simply looking to improve your overall wellness, this episode is packed with valuable insights and practical advice on how to eat clean!

PODCAST NOTES

  • Brookhaven Effect - The Brookhaven Effect is about understanding that what you eat profoundly affects your health. Eating exclusively clean, nutrient dense foods from Brookhaven Farms or other similar high quality sources, leads to better health outcomes and longevity. Dr. Wells emphasizes that food is your medicine, and choosing the right foods can help you live not just a longer life, but a healthier one. This is where quality really makes a difference.

  • Benefits of the Carnivore Diet - I’ve been a proponent of the carnivore diet for some time now and have seen its positive effects firsthand. From managing insulin resistance to reducing inflammation, a meat-centric diet can be transformative. Jake Hubbard pointed out that the key issue with grocery store meats is their lack of nutrient density, which is largely because of what the animals are fed. At Brookhaven, animals are raised on nutrient-rich grasses and forages, resulting in meats that are packed with the nutrients your body needs.

  • Impact of Processed Foods - Dr. Wells and I discuss the adverse effects of processed foods. Processed foods are often filled with preservatives and artificial ingredients that can harm your health. Remember, if a food item is heavily advertised or has a long shelf life, it’s probably not the healthiest choice. Processed foods are a major contributor to modern health problems, so minimizing them in your diet is vital. Aim for whole, unadulterated foods for the best health outcomes.

  • Partnering with Brookhaven Farms - Our collaboration with Brookhaven Farms is designed to provide Performance Medicine patients with easy access to high quality nutrient dense foods. This partnership aligns perfectly with our goal of enhancing your health through better nutrition. Now, integrating these clean foods into your diet is more convenient than ever.

  • Weekly Deliveries - Starting January 22, Brookhaven Farms will deliver their products to our Performance Medicine offices every Wednesday. You can place your orders online at brookhavenfarms.net and pick them up at any of our Performance Medicine locations in the Tri Cities (Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol). This weekly service makes it seamless to maintain a diet rich in the best foods available. Note: Knoxville deliveries coming soon. Please let us know if you are interested.

  • Encouraging Lifestyle Changes - We’ve had fantastic results with our No Processed Food Challenge, where many of you felt significant improvements in your health. This shows the power of making lasting lifestyle changes. Eliminating ultra-processed foods and adopting cleaner eating habits can lead to sustained health benefits. It’s not just a diet - it’s lifestyle transformation.

  • How to Order a Brookhaven Butcher Box - For those interested in getting started, Jake walked us through the easy ordering process for the Brookhaven Butcher Box. Each box includes an assortment of meats (4 pounds of chicken, 4 pounds of ground beef, 4 pounds of pork, 1 pound of hickory smoked bacon, 2 pounds of sausage, and a dozen eggs). You also have the option to include a gallon of raw milk (for pets) or a ribeye steak in exchange. You can easily add extra items to your order as well. This variety ensures you get nutrient-dense foods conveniently and affordably.

  • Building a Health-Focused Community - This initiative is more than just about food; it’s about creating a supportive environment where we can collectively improve our health and well-being.

Performance Medicine is excited to partner with Brookhaven Farms. Their nutrient-dense meats, vibrant eggs, and healing raw milk and yogurt are unparalleled in nutritional integrity. It is my hope that by making these foods more easily accessible, our patients will be encouraged to eat clean.

It takes a village!

Stay educated. Stay healthy.

Till next week.
