Welcome to another edition of the Doctor’s Note where we talk about what’s on our minds when it comes to your health.

This week I sat down with Kelli Rogers, LE, to talk about an area of health and appearance that is often overlooked: the scalp. At Performance Medicine, we are always interested in treatments that support both how patients feel and how they look, and scalp health is an important part of that conversation. The Hydrafacial Keravive scalp treatment is designed to cleanse, exfoliate, stimulate, and nourish the scalp in a way that may support healthier, fuller-looking hair. We also discussed how advances in scalp care may help address concerns such as thinning hair, dryness, buildup, and even graying.

Kelli explained how the Hydrafacial Keravive treatment works to purify, stimulate, and nourish the scalp—going far beyond what we typically think of when we hear the word “facial.” She walked us through each step of the process, from clearing buildup and clogged follicles to infusing the scalp with a proprietary booster designed to support a healthier scalp environment. We also talked about the many factors that can affect hair health, including genetics, nutrition, stress, hormonal changes, and even rapid weight loss. What I appreciated most is that this treatment is not painful, can be done in a series, and includes practical at-home tools to help continue scalp stimulation and hydration between visits. Personally, I was amazed at how noticeably thicker my hair looked right after the treatment!

PODCAST NOTES

  • The scalp actually ages up to 16 times faster than the skin on the rest of your body, which means it requires much more attention than most people realize. Neglecting scalp care can accelerate issues like thinning and premature graying, making specialized treatments essential to keeping your hair looking healthy and youthful.

  • Hydrafacial Keravive works through a multi-step approach: it first deeply purifies and exfoliates the scalp with beta hydroxy acid, eliminating product buildup and clogged follicles, and then follows with the infusion of a unique booster solution that nourishes the scalp and supports stronger and denser hair growth.

  • One of the remarkable features of the treatment is its capacity to help with both hydration and pigmentation in the hair follicles, potentially reducing the appearance of gray hair and restoring vibrancy, as well as delivering immediate improvements in scalp hydration and comfort.

  • Hydrafacial Keravive is a versatile option that is safe and effective for both men and women and is particularly beneficial for individuals with color-treated hair, as it will not damage hair follicles but instead helps counteract the drying effects of hair dye treatments.

  • Regular scalp massage, whether done manually or using the brushes included with the treatment, has real science backing its benefits: it improves circulation, stimulates follicles, supports hair retention, and is easily incorporated into a daily routine for ongoing benefits.

  • Nutritional health plays a significant role in hair maintenance, as factors like protein, collagen intake, and overall diet impact hair’s strength and resistance to shedding; rapid weight loss or poor nutrition—such as cutting out too much protein—can trigger or worsen hair thinning.

  • For those seeking comprehensive results, Hydrafacial Keravive can be safely and effectively combined with other interventions such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections and microneedling, making it an ideal adjunct to advanced hair restoration programs and optimizing scalp health during ongoing therapies.

  • At-home maintenance is built into the program: every patient receives a take-home peptide spray and a stimulating scalp brush after the procedure, empowering them to continue treating their scalp twice daily, maintain follicular health, and extend the benefits of each office treatment between appointments.

Taking care of your scalp is a vital—yet often overlooked—aspect of overall health and appearance. Whether you’re struggling with thinning hair, graying, dryness, buildup, or simply want to support thicker, more vibrant-looking hair, treatments like Hydrafacial Keravive—combined with good at-home care and proper nutrition—may make a meaningful difference.
